The Speech Evaluation Scoresheet that will be used for the Friday night speech contest at Provincials has been posted on the Provincials webpage. It has been modified from the one that was used last year to try to make it clearer to students and judges what exactly is being marked. All people participating in the LFC Provincials should familiarize themselves with this scoresheet. Add Comment The CSDF is happy to invite the provinces and territories to the 2012 National Student Debating Seminar of the Canadian Student Debating Federation in Regina, Saskatchewan from Tuesday, May 8 to Sunday, May 13 (includes travel days). This year’s host is the Saskatchewan Elocution Debate Association (SEDA). Congratulations to Jamal D and Grace J (from Burnaby Mountain) who competed at the Queens High School Invitational on Feb. 11th & 12th. They ended the preliminaries with a 5-1 record and went to the U15 finals where they proceeded to win the U15 category! They are going to England to represent Canada for the "International Competition for Young Debaters" at Oxford University. Details about the LFC 2012 have now been posted online. The 2013 national team tryouts were held on Nov. 28-29, 2011 in Toronto, ON. We had the largest group (27) trying out for one of nine spaces on the 2013 development team. After two days of intense debates, the following students have been offered a spot on the 2013 team: Ryan S., grade 11, Man. Alessandra H., grade 11, BC Rory F., grade 8, NS Oliver B., grade 11, NS Brittany H., grade 11, Sask. Alex R., grade 11, Alb. Henry S., grade 11, Alb. Nasra M., grade 10, Sask. Brie D., grade 9, NS These nine students will join the three returning members at the summer training camp. The returning members are: Jessica D., grade 11, BC Anisah M., grade 11, ON Julia M., grade 11, BC Many thanks to the 12 judges who spent the two days judging 9 rounds of debate! The Debate and Speech Association of BC hosted its first Debate Coaching Workshop. Coaches from all over British Columbia joined together to hone their skills as coaches. Participants attended workshops and a panel discussion. Teacher honoured for Debating Zeal 04/06/2011
Marilyn Lunde, from the Kootenays, has been honoured with "the Willis McLeese Award, which is given out annually on behalf of the Canadian Student Debating Federation to those who’ve made an outstanding contribution to debate within their jurisdiction."
